Description:
WebZound Player is a ZND format streaming audio player
Overview:
The WebZound player is started by a listener's web browser with the
path and filename of the ZDT dropfile as its only argument. Once started
the program reads the drop file, connects to the server, starts receiving
the ZND file, and begins playback after filling the internal buffers. In
the case that the sound buffer becomes empty (caused by too slow of a
connection or lack of CPU) the playback pauses and the buffering routines
are called to refill the buffers.
Hardware/Software Requirements:
o An IBM PC or compatible
o Windows 3.1, 3.11, Windows for Workgroups, or Windows-95
o A Winsock connection to the Internet
[webznd32.exe requires a 32 bit Winsock to operate. Win-95 users running
a 16 bit Winsock stack should use the 16 bit version of WebZound]
o Any 386/486 or better CPU
[A 486dx2-66 or better is suggested as some playback speeds use more CPU
than others. Insufficient CPU will result in pausing to refill buffers]
o A soundcard with Windows driver that is capable of being a waveform output
device at 5500, 7333, 11025, 14666, and 22050 samples per second.
[The card needs to be stereo compatible to play stereo sounds. Mono
sounds will play normally on a mono card.]
Installation:
Unzip the file wz16-21b.zip (or wz32-21b.zip) into an empty directory.
Configuration:
none
Web Browser Configuration:
With the web browser, go to a site with audio in WebZound's ZND format.
Click on a link to a .ZDT file. The web browser will pop up a dialog box
asking how to handle the ZDT file. Select the option to configure a helper
application (sometimes called a viewer). Either: 1. use browse to select
the webznd??.exe, or 2. enter the full path and filename of the
webznd??.exe . Close the dialog box (normally by clicking on OK). The
WebZound player should come up and play the sound file. Older browsers
require you to then open the helper application configuration box and
click on OK (this saves the new configuration). Newer browsers do this
automatically.
